I had a bit of a glut on paranormal/fantasy books the past few days. You wanna see what I read?

Blood of the DemonBlood of the Demon by Diana Rowland
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I read this immediately after Mark of the Demon and really enjoyed the character progression and reveals in this story. While I was originally expecting (and vaguely dreading) a greater focus on romance, I really liked that it was more about the mystery. The only thing really stopping me from giving this 5 stars is the fact that I'm not really feeling much for/from Rhyzkhal. Hopefully we'll get more from him in future books.
AshAsh by Malinda Lo
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

While I really did enjoy this book, and love the relationship that slowly and naturally progresses between Ash and Kaisa, something felt like it was missing from this story and the scenes involving the two balls felt needlessly tacked on. It was almost like the author felt there had to be a scene at a ball for it to be a Cinderella retelling, when the hunting scene really covered all that very well. The Yule celebration scenes in City Square also felt necessary.
EmberEmber by Bettie Sharpe
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a fantastically dark and twisted retelling of Cinderella. There are no real villains and everyone is flawed. Even the Prince (who seems like he should be a cardboard cut-out there for the masses to fawn over) ends up with a more than one-dimensional personality. All said, this might be my favorite retelling, though Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister does give it a run for its money.
Like a Thief in the NightLike a Thief in the Night by Bettie Sharpe
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

While early on the book comes off as a bit unnecessarily crude, when it hits it's stride it's a very intense and lovely dark, futuristic, fairy tale. I would definitely read more from this author especially since I loved her story Ember as well.
Bones of FaerieBones of Faerie by Janni Lee Simner
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

While I really did enjoy this look at the world post human/Faerie war, I think that it could have been a 5 star book if some of the characters as well as Washville itself has been fleshed out and given more attention.

Making a Loud Noise Until Rescued

"I thought," said Piglet earnestly, "that if Eeyore stood at the bottom of the tree, and if Pooh stood on Eeyore's back, and if I stood on Pooh's shoulders----"

"And if Eeyore's back snapped suddenly, then we could all laugh. Ha ha! Amusing in a quiet way," said Eeyore, "but not really helpful."

"Well," said Piglet meekly, "I thought----"

"Would it break your back, Eeyore?" asked Pooh, very much surprised.

"That's what would be so interesting, Pooh. Not being quite sure till afterwards."
